'I have the latest version of ChromeOS but you say my Chrome Browser is out of date!'

Sometimes you might find if you're running ChromeOS (Google's Operating System for ChromeBooks), you might get a warning on our homepage saying that your version of Chrome Browser is out of date - even though you're running the latest version of ChromeOS.

There are two factors in this happening:

• ChromeOS is based on the underlying technology of the Chrome browser - this is why the version numbers of ChromeOS and Chrome Browser are always almost identical - eg ChromeOS v78 ships with Chrome Browser v78.
• ChromeOS needs the technology of latest version of Chrome Browser to be finalised before ChromeOS can be finalised - eg ChromeOS v79 can't be finalised if the technology for Chrome Browser v79 isn't ready first.

So there's often a short lag between the latest version of Chrome Browser being released and then the corresponding version of ChromeOS also being released. In that short window of time (usually only a few days), you might have the latest version of ChromeOS (no updates are available), but in the mean time the next version of Chrome Browser has been released.

This is a normal part of using Chromebooks and there's nothing you can do about it - it's probably nothing to worry about.
