What is Doom 3? The ruins of an ancient Martian civilization have unlocked the secrets to teleportation, and the UAC will stop at nothing to harness this world-altering technology. Installation Instructions To install Doom 3, drag the DOOM 3 folder on the DVD to your computer's hard disk. Once copied, open the DOOM 3 folder on your hard disk and double-click the DOOM3 game icon to launch the game. Removal Instructions To remove Doom 3, drag the DOOM 3 folder on your computer's hard disk to the trash. Then locate the Doom 3 preferences file named 'com.aspyr.doom3.plist' located in Home/Library/Preferences and the 'Doom 3' folder located in Home/Library/Application Support and drag both of these to the trash. Advanced Preferences To access the Advanced Preferences in Doom 3, hold down the Command (⌘) key as you launch the game. The Advanced Preferences permit you to run Doom 3 in a window, select a custom monitor refresh rate, select a custom resolution, and, if your Mac has more than one monitor, to choose the monitor on which Doom 3 will run. Please note that while Doom 3 is running, it is not possible to toggle between running in full screen and running in a window. The default refresh rate setting (Automatic) should work for most users. However, if you find that the game switches your monitor to an unstable mode or to one that does not produce a proper image, you can change the refresh rate from Automatic to a specific refresh rate. It may be necessary to try several different refresh rates before you find one that works for your computer. Similarly, while you can adjust the game resolution from within the options menu in Doom 3, the Advanced Preferences permit you to choose from a wider selection of resolutions, including some widescreen resolutions that offer improved compatibility with the widescreen displays found on some Macs. Adjusting the resolution in the Advanced Preferences can also be used as a means to obtain a proper image if you are experiencing issues with the graphics in the Doom 3. Known Issues and Troubleshooting Shadows on low end Macs For increased game performance, on Macs with G4 processors or GeForce FX 5200 video cards with 64MB of Video Memory (for example the iMac G5), shadows are turned off by default. To turn shadows on, access the 'System' options menu from the main menu's options button, click on 'Advanced Options', and then set 'Enable Shadows' to Yes. Please note that enabling shadows on slower machines will cause a drop in overall game performance. Audio Doom 3 for Mac OS X currently supports only 2 channel stereo audio output. To enable 5.1 channel audio output under OS X, extra hardware is required and support for such hardware may be available in a future patch. Please check www.aspyr.com for updates. Network Play This release of Doom 3 allows PC and Mac users to play each other in multiplayer games. When creating a server, there is an advanced option called 'Pure Server' that defaults to 'YES'. With Pure Server games, the server and client perform additional checks to ensure no user is cheating. The Mac version of Doom 3 includes an additional data file named game02.pk4. If the PC installation of Doom 3 does not have this data file, then a Mac user cannot join a Pure Server game hosted by the PC. A future patch to the Win32 and Linux version of Doom 3 will include this data file. At that point, all users will be able to play each other using the default settings. When Pure Server is set to 'NO', Mac and PC users can play each other in multiplayer games without having to worry about this additional data file.
